The ULU Big Band is the flagship group for the University of London Jazz Society. Formed in Autumn 2002, the band consists of some of the best young jazz musicians in London and represents the majority of the individual University colleges. It receives expert tuition from Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra MD Pete Long and plays regular gigs in London, around England, and often tours abroad.
Their reputation for superb musicianship has allowed the Big Band to build on its early successes; they frequently appear at some of London’s most famous venues including the Bulls Head, frequently play for University of London College events, and accompany swing dances. The band and jazz society continue to pick up awards, winning University of London Big Band of the Year in 2011 & 2012 and retaining its University of London Union Society of the Year award for the third year.
